Summary

In 2022, we were fortunate enough to organise, fundraise, donate and distribute much needed school supplies to students in Seenigama, Sri Lanka. This year we were grateful to partner with Foundation of Goodness, which allowed us to donate school supply packs to approximately 145 students. With lessened COVID restrictions, our LBYG members also had the opportunity to visit and participate in this fulfilling donation of school supply packs to students.

On the 9th of November 2022, our LBYG members were greeted by Seenigama school students with a wonderful dance performance and welcomed by the school principal. All of the students were so happy to see our members come and see them for the donation of much needed school supplies. Once formalities such as speeches were conducted, our LBYG members were fortunate enough to speak to these students and got to know they came from different life experiences. Some of the students were orphans due to their parents passing away in the tsunami.

For all of those who contributed to the school project, donated their time to help out at food stalls and fundraising events in Sydney, those who organised events behind the scenes and those who participated in the trip to Sri Lanka we thank dearly as the gift of education is one that can change lives. Your immense effort helped raise $7,500 in funds, whereby $5,000 was used to fund our school supply distribution for 145 students, and this wouldn't have been possible without the help of our LBYG members, parents and the community.

If you would love to be part of the next school project, please get in contact with us we always welcome new faces! Anyone who would be interested to participate in the trip to Sri Lanka please reach out as our members and families who had the opportunity to go in 2022 highly recommended it as it was a truly rewarding experience for them!

What is Foundation of Goodness?

Foundation of Goodness is an organisation that aims to bridge the gap between the urban and rural communities in Sri Lanka. To date they have been able to help and aid over 900 villages reaching over 68,000 beneficiaries annually. The Foundation of Goodness has multiple divisions where they provide support in and include: special needs, sports development, medical, dental and psychological support, children as well as rural welfare to name a few.

In October 2022, our executive team members were able to tie bonds and develop a positive relationship with Kushil, the Founder of this amazing charitable organisation. This relationship helped build the connection to help further support rural students in Sri Lanka through a more streamline process.

Our LBYG members and families who visited Sri Lanka in November were also invited to the Foundation of Goodness Centre of Excellence, where they were shown more of the great work that is done to help less fortunate people. This included free preschool for children, IT courses, sports lessons, women empowerment courses to name a few.

We are truly grateful for the opportunity to work with Foundation of Goodness and hope to keep our relationship strong with Kushil and his team.

Next Steps from Here...

We have been fortunate to receive 16 Lenovo PCs in great condition, donated by our LBYG members Arjuna and Mali for the school project. Currently our School Project team has had difficulty sourcing the PCs to Sri Lanka and are seeking out viable solutions without the risk of confiscation by customs, as these are second hand computers. We are also in discussions to see if it is necessary to upgrade the software and parts in the existing computers.

If anyone has experience or would like to share some insight regarding transportation or upgrading of the PCs, this advice would be greatly appreciated by our School Project team!
