This year's at Lankarama Vesak season, saw the LBYG Religious and Cultural team envision to make a vivid display of the 3 Stages of Buddha's life, take part in Vesak Sill program, singing of Bakthi Geetha and hold a Bake stall for the community.

A series of workshops were required in order to create such a spectacle lightening display, with the LBYG team as well as members of the Lankan community with electrician profession. We are thankful for all those that contributed through out the months leading to Vesak.

On the Saturday of the weekend of Vesak, the Annual Youth Vesak Sill day was held. Over 100+ participants gathered to practice the virtues of the Dhamma, also known as Sila or precepts. On this day 8 precepts are observed by all precepts and they are:

  1. Abstaining from killing

  2. Abstaining from stealing

  3. Abstaining from sexual activity

  4. Abstaining from telling lies

  5. Abstaining from intoxicating drinks and drugs

  6. Abstaining from eating after noon

  7. Abstaining from entertainment and beautifying the body

  8. Abstaining from using luxurious furniture

The actual construction of the Vesak display took place the same Saturday as the Youth Sill day, where all the components needed to be formed together. From all the visual graphics to the connecting of lightening, everything had to be done accordingly with the envision of the final display.

Soon the second part of the celebrations were to take place, where the lights would enlighten the display in its all its beauty.

During the night, the other main festivity taking place was Bakthi Geetha, known as traditional singing. The LBYG team put together two singing performances for display Infront of a magnificent crowd.
